Porn

Porn doesn't really have the best reputation. There are many opinions about it, most of them negative. In spite of this, the consumption of porn is still extremely high. But is there a way to consume porn in a better, more conscious way? Can you change you pornhabits, and still get a use out of it? Read more about porn in this article

Is all porn unethical?

A part of the bad reputation of porn stems from the porn industry. Even though the industry has become more regulated in recent years, there are still a lot of ethical problems. But not all porn is unethical. You can choose to consume porn, where you know that the profits go directly to the participants in the movies. OnlyFans is a good example of a platform, where you know who receives your money. In Denmark, the production company Bedside creates ethical, queer-friendly porn. And when I say ethical porn, you might think well that sounds boring? If that is the case, I can definitely recommend checking Bedsides website out!

What can porn be used for?

I often recommend my clients to use porn like a tool, if they struggle determining what they want, need and desire. Porn is not necessarily a tool for masturbation, it can also be used as a way to explore your own sexuality and desires. Just the act of scrolling through the categories of a porn site will get your imagination going, and you might discover something new, that you didn't even consider could turn you on.

What if I can't masturbate without porn?

For a lot of people, porn is linked to having sex with yourself. And there is nothing wrong with that. But for some it can be hard to experience climax or just masturbate without porn, and maybe you don't even want to without it. For some, a type of externalization happens. Externalization in relation to porn and masturbation means that sex and the desire for sex is something that stems from something outside yourself and your mind. And in these cases, you might consider making some changes. For starters, there is nothing wrong with consuming porn. But if you can't get turned on without the use of it, that might be a little problematic for you. A way to move past this habit is to start looking away from the screen when you are close to climax. Like with other habits, it can be a good idea to find an alternative habit slowly, so this new habit can be integrated in the best way. So, over a longer period of time you could start looking away for longer and longer, and then start completely turning it off earlier and earlier. If the problem is too great to handle, and is negatively affecting your life, I recommend seeking some help.

Porn together

If both you and a partner like watching porn, it could be something you do together. It could be a little warmup for your own session, or inspiration for different things you might find sexy. You could try challenging each other to find something you each find sexy, and then watch it together. But not everyone wants to watch it, so all parties must be in on the idea. Like with sex, it's only good if all parties likes it and consents.

Enjoy yourselves!
