7 steps for using Binder Tape
What is Binder Tape?
Bindertape, also called trans tape or chest tape, is designed to bind the breast tissue. It is placed from the top of the rib cage to just below the armpit. A binder can help express your gender identity and give control over how your body is presented, which can improve mental health and self-esteem. However, it's important to listen to your body's signals, especially if you haven't tried binder tape before. That's why Snorre Lund Villumsen, a user of binder tape himself, has written 7 tips for those who are new to using binder tape.
1. Listen to your body!
Regardless of what you put on your body(binding tape, etc.) it's important to listen to your body. If it hurts or itches a lot, take it off, even if you've only had it on for 1-2 days.
2. Round the corners
Cut the corners of your trans tape pieces(bindertape) before application so they last longer without going up at the edges.
3. don't stretch the last piece
Trans-tape is very stretchy, which is part of what makes it so good for binding. However, I would recommend not stretching the last 2-3 cm, as the skin will quickly become very irritated if it is taped in a stretch. This also allows the tape to last longer.
4. Remember the nipple cover!
The skin around your nipples is extra thin and sensitive, so it's a good idea to put a patch or nipple cover over them before applying tape. However, be
careful not to use a patch with a plastic-like surface, as this can cause
friction and discomfort.
5. The goal is a naturally flat chest
The goal with trans-tape is not to get a completely flat chest - it's neither possible nor natural. However, it is good for creating a naturally masculine appearance - remember that cisgender men also have pectoral muscles and fat on their chest and therefore rarely have a completely flat chest.
6. Practice makes perfect
Remember that every body is different, and there is no one right way to use tape. It can vary a lot from person to person what works best/how long
pieces of tape you use/how many pieces you need etc. Try it out and
find out what works for you.
7. Shower beforehand
Binder tape sticks best to completely clean skin, so make sure you shower before application -and wash with soap on the area where the tape will be applied.
Have fun - and remember to listen to your body!
