The different types of orgasms (for people with vulva)
When talking about orgasms for people with vulva, it is typically the clitoral and vaginal orgasms that are mentioned. Maybe a G-spot orgasm sneaks in, but it's easily confused with the vaginal orgasm. Do you have a handle on the many different kinds of orgasms people with vulvas can have? If not, read our guide here and you might be inspired to explore new orgasm types.
What is the best orgasm?
First of all: there are countless ways to have an orgasm, none more right than others! Some use sex toys, others their fingers and still others put a duvet or similar between their legs and grind. It's completely individual how you want to masturbate and you should always do what feels nicest for you.
Furthermore, there are no "more right" orgasm types than others! However, there may be mixed opinions on how many orgasm types there really are. Some believe that all orgasms you can experience originate from the clitoris. In this way, all orgasms are clitoral orgasms. Others believe that you can divide orgasms based on where the stimulation occurs and how the orgasm feels.
Without concrete research, you can't really say which is more accurate. But the important thing may not be what you call the orgasm - as long as it feels good. And with that said, let's examine some of the different types of orgasms most often talked about:
Clitoral orgasm
The clitoral orgasm is the most common type of orgasm, perhaps because it's the "easiest" to have. And no, it's not always easy or quick to have an orgasm.
But because a clitoral orgasm happens when you stimulate the nerve endings, it's "easiest" to have this type of orgasm because there are the most nerve endings clustered here. As many as 8000, in fact!
There are many different ways to stimulate the clitoris and the most popular sex toy for the purpose is probably the clitoral stimulator. If you don't have a clitoral stimulator yet or just want one more, read our guide and get inspired here.
G-spot orgasm
Some people think the G-spot is at the back of the clitoris, while others think it's a completely separate thing. There hasn't been much research into it, so it's hard to say exactly what it is. However, many people describe how they can experience deep orgasms by stimulating the area, so whatever you call it, it may be worth a try.
You can find the G-spot about 2-5 cm inside the vagina, by bending your finger in a "come-hither" motion and tracing around the front wall of the vagina towards your stomach. For some, the G-spot can feel like a rough little walnut, but not everyone has this spot. It's "easiest" to stimulate the G-spot with a curved dildo, and here the Amber dildo is an obvious choice. Amber is also made of hard borosilicate glass, which is perfect for G-spot massage. It may require a bit more stimulation to have an orgasm here compared to clitoral orgasms.
You can also read more about the G-spot and how to find it in our guide here.
Vaginal orgasm
A few centimetres above the G-spot is the A-spot. The point is sometimes called the prostate of the vulva because it sits in the same area as the prostate of the penis.
You can find the A-spot by first finding the G-spot and then moving slowly upwards. Maybe there's an area that feels a little more sensitive? The A-spot can be a little harder to reach with your fingers than the G-spot, so a good dildo can be helpful. Like the G-spot, the A-spot sits on the front wall of the vagina, so a curved dildo such as Amber is best.
And again, remember that all kinds of vaginal orgasms are often harder to get than clitoral orgasms. If you can't have an orgasm by stimulating the vagina, that's not at all abnormal.
Cervical orgasm
The cervix sits at the top of the vagina, and is the connection between the vagina and the uterus. The cervix is about the size of a walnut, and if you can reach in with your fingers, it may feel a little nubby.
Although the point may be associated with pain, for some it can feel nice to massage. But it may be a good idea to warm up a bit first, as the area may not be used to such direct touch. You can try it out with your fingers or a dildo, where you can read our guide to choosing just the right dildo here.
The mixed orgasm
The mixed orgasm combines a form of vaginal orgasm with a clitoral orgasm, and the result is a really powerful orgasm! You can experience a mixed orgasm by stimulating the clitoris at the same time as penetration or another form of vaginal stimulation. It may sound tricky, but it's really easy with e.g. a rabbit vibrator. If you like Satisfyer you can try their Pro+ vibrator which combines their great clitoral stimulator feature with a vibrating dildo feature. If you really want to treat yourself, there's also the Snail Vibe vibrator, which is designed specifically to give the best mixed vibrations.
Anal orgasm
You could say that all orgasms are simply about stimulating the nerve endings. There are a lot of nerve endings in and around the anus, so of course it's possible to have an orgasm by stimulating there too. There are several different ways to stimulate the anus: a nice rimming job, which you can read about in our guide here, can go a long way. Butt plugs are another great option, which you can also read about in our guide here. Of course, there's also anal sex, where rim jobs and butt plugs can serve as methods to warm up with. Remember lube when having anal sex, and feel free to read our guide for tips on how to gett started.
Squirting orgasm
Whether it exists or not is much debated in medical circles. Nevertheless, many people with vulvas describe experiencing the squirting form of orgasm. There are several different ways to achieve a squirting orgasm, with some pointing to the clitoris and others to the G-spot. There's no one right way, and you can read more about how you might get a squirting orgasm in our guide here.
Nipple orgasm
Yes, you can actually have an orgasm by stimulating the nipples! The nipples are an erogenous zone with many nerve endings which, with enough stimulation, can bring on an orgasm.
You can start with a little massage oil or a light lubricant to make touch feel even nicer. Then you can slide your fingers around the nipples to build up tension. When you're more turned on, you can alternate between stroking, squeezing or twisting the nipples. Breathe deeply while to relax completely and get more into a rhythm.
